Last week, filming was wrapped on “Fast and Furious 5.” Yup, they made another one. We spotted this blog over on fireballtim.com by Fireball Tim himself recapping the stunt crew/prop department’s experience with the filming, the actors, and most importantly, the cars.
If the new film could be summed up, it’d be “Chargers, Chargers and more Chargers.”Vin Diesel’s flat black ’70 Charger returns (whether with the same BDS blower 350 small block Chevrolet under the hood or not is still unsure), the cars used for the big heist/getaway scene are all smoked-out LX-based Chargers, and the pursuing police cars are the all-new ’11 Chargers. If you’re into Chargers, this might be your movie.
To be fair, SPOILER ALERT!
Apparently, this round, the clutch-dumping duo of Vin Diesel and Paul Walker are on the run from a crime they didn’t commit. Cheesy premise: check. Next, a swarthy gangster from Rio de Janeiro, who has turned drug trafficking into a corporate gig, is gunning for the ill-fated street racers. Paper-thin bad guy: check. And of course, Dwayne “The Rock, When Not Playing The Toothfairy” Johnson is the heavy hot on their tail. Oh yeah, he’s bald too. That means he’s a bad ass. Superfluous addition of another quasi-star name: double check.
Anyways, Fireball Tim goes on to describe the corral of cars including a pair of satin LX Chargers that they rig up to yank a giant vault out of a bank via a convoluted system of cables and chains, dragging the man-sized safe down the street. Tim also describes a high-speed train sequence which involves yanking cars off the train and onto a truck at 100mph.
Either way, expect a lion’s share of over-the-top, law of physics-defying stunts and CGI-enhanced visual trickery that would make your elementary school-aged little brother scratch his head with unbelief.
