In the beginning, Trans Am Racing was truly a production-based series, featuring a class predominantly designed to stack the American pony cars against one another, and an international class for European sedans. Over time that changed to what we have today; however the Trans Am series have sought to bring back those rivalries over the past couple of seasons with the addition of the TA3 class.
What is quickly growing into one of the more popular divisions on the circuit, TA3 offers a means for drivers to showcase professional production racing in an affordable platform at legendary tracks that we’ve grown to love. Divided into two groups, the International and American Muscle group, TA3 features some of the tightest and closest racing that Trans Am has to offer today.
As you can imagine, ensuring that the Mustangs, Camaros, Challengers are on a level playing field can be a daunting task. All cars in the American Muscle group must have a power ratio of 8.5 pounds per rear wheel horsepower. To ensure that this rule is being met, Trans Am organizers enlisted the help of Dynojet to provide trackside diagnostics services by using their dynamometers.
“Thanks to our partnership with Dynojet we now have detailed information for both the TA3 International and American Muscle Groups,” said Kirk Ready, Technical Director for Trans Am. “The American Muscle Group’s reported horsepower was where we expected it to be, there was not any major variance—which fortunately means we have a level playing field throughout the class. In the International Group we now have a much better understanding of the range of horsepower within the class, something we can regulate going forward.”
For Dynojet not only do they sponsor the TA3 Rookie of the Year, but they also say the TA3 offers them a chance to prove their reliable equipment with track-worthy performance machines. “We’re proud to be involved in Trans Am’s commitment to growing the TA3 class,” said Will Fong, Sales and Marketing Manager of Dynojet. “TA3 is a great showcase of production power and racing—one that we are pleased to be supporting and helping grow. At the same time, we’re able to showcase our abilities in a demanding environment on true performance machines.”
So, if you are planning on catching one of the remaining Trans Am events in 2014 make sure you stop by the Dynojet area and thank them for all they do to ensure that we the fans get to see close side-by-side racing.
