Eddie Krawiec’s Stunning Drag Radial Camaro Nears Completion

Word comes to us from the hallowed halls of one of the East Coast’s premier chassis shops, Dennis MacPherson’s DMC Racing, that NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle star and Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson team rider Eddie Krawiec’s 275-style Drag Radial Camaro is just about finished up and ready to run during the 2014 season.

We’ve reported on the car in the past (here, here, and here), but it’s been a while since we’ve been able to see any sort of substantial update on the car. That’s because MacPherson and his team have been hard at work finishing it up, and Krawiec was actually supposed to pick it up and take it back to Indianapolis this past week – until an East Coast snowstorm derailed his flight and put the plans on hold for a few weeks longer.

DSC_7967-Edit“We’re scheduled to go down to Valdosta shortly and spend the week there testing the bikes right before Gainesville, so I won’t be able to get out to DMC for another few weeks at this point due to my schedule. The car’s about 90% right now, and the only real things to do to the car right now is to paint the underside to match the body. This delay actually gives them a chance to finish it up before I get out there to pick it up. This month is the third-year anniversary of us building the car, and I’m ready to race it,” says Krawiec.

When the car was first built for the original owner, it had a 25.5-spec chassis in it that has since been upgraded at Krawiec’s direction to a state-of-the-art 25.3 chassis. With the expected performance from the 440-cube Billy Briggs LS engine and 106mm Exile Turbo Systems snail under the hood, the chassis needs to be stiff and work well. To that end, Krawiec selected a front suspension system, rearend housing, and torque arm from Midwest Race Cars – the same parts that LSX standout Mark Koehler runs under his Drag Radial machine. DMC’s MacPherson massaged the suspension pieces to put the car’s ride height where he wanted it.

Krawiec plans on running the car all over the midwest whenever possible, specifically the NMCA‘s LSX Drag Radial class, although it’s conceivable he’ll show up anywhere there’s a 275 race going on as he’ll have an 88mm turbo to throw on the car when necessary. “The LSX class is where all of the LS hitters are playing right now. I can hit most of those races within a few hours of the house, and they’re on off-weekends from my regular schedule,” he says.

DMC’s Eric LaFerriere will be working the engine tuneup and in the driver’s seat for the initial shakedown runs, with MacPherson tuning up the chassis, but Krawiec says he’ll be in the car in short order. We asked about crewmembers, and he hinted that it won’t be out of the realm of possibility to see Andrew Hines turning wrenches on the car.

He also mentioned that he’d love to see his wife in the driver’s seat at some point, although there was no confirmation from “The Boss” on the possibility of that happening. Whoever’s in the driver’s seat, this is one wicked machine that we can’t wait to see in person!
