Working for a car dealership can be both a dream and a nightmare. If you’re a real car guy, having access to some of the newest and coolest cars on the planet before anyone else can be a real treat, though you’d better be ready to deal with cranky customers and demanding bosses. Not everyone can hang, and the turnover rate at many car dealerships is shockingly high.
But most former employees know better than to try and take revenge on their old employers. Unfortunately one former Courtesy Chevrolet employee didn’t get the message, as the Phoenix NewTimes reports, as the employee stands accused of stealing both a Chevy Camaro and a Chevy Traverse… and he was busted by OnStar, of all things.
You’d think that 21-year old Kevin Morales would have known better, having been employed by the Chevy dealership two weeks before the alleged theft. But once his position was terminated (for unknown reasons) Morales allegedly stole both a brand new Chevy Camaro, and a Chevy Traverse crossover, right off of the dealer lots. The plate on the Camaro was only accessible to dealership employees, and the Camaro and Traverse were both found parked in front of Morales’s apartment.
For his part, Morales claims he was giving a friend he could only name as “Martin” a test drive (for two weeks) and that Martin must have somehow gotten access to the Camaro. That doesn’t explain what Morales’ Social Security and other I.D. cards were doing in the Camaro.
Look, we often joke about wanting a Camaro desperately enough to steal it, but really, did this joker think he was going to get away with stealing two $30,000+ cars off a dealership lot? Has he never even heard of OnStar? He’ll have plenty of time to mull over his mistakes in lockup, that’s for sure.
