Cosmetic and Interior Changes Await the Camaro for 2014

Camaro 2A few years back when GM first introduced the 5th-Gen Camaro, there was no high-performance equivalent that could take-on any of Ford’s late-model fire breathers. The truth was that Ford and Shelby, along with Chrysler’s SRT division, were dominating the late-model muscle scene.

Camaro 1Last week at the New York Auto Show, the General surprised the public with the LS7-powered Z/28 that will be making its debut for 2014, a new Camaro that uses the latest drivetrain components, while staying true to the nameplate. The ’14 Z/28 promises to become the new Camaro favorite for anyone seeking an “in-between,” one that’s an alternative to the SS or ZL1.

For 2014, however, GM promises to make substantial changes to the Camaro. Thanks to our friends at Camaro5.com, we have seen a comprehensive look at what’s new, and what’s gone. Given the list of stuff that’s scheduled to be cut-out, however, we’re not sure really how we feel about 2014’s itinerary.

That’s because the Camaro for the upcoming sales year will no longer have its previous rear spoiler as standard equipment, and in fact the only models for 2014 that will have a standard spoiler are the SS models, along with those LT coupes equipped with the RS exterior package.

Also slightly disappointing is the absence of the Hot Wheels Special Edition package, which previously featured a Kinetic Blue Metallic paint scheme. A few other factory colors are also due Camaro 5to be removed from the Camaro’s list of options, namely the Victory Red, Rally Yellow and Inferno Orange Metallic paints.

On the interior side, the Camaro’s previous Mojave trim option is being deleted, and back outside, Argent ground effects and quarter flares will no longer be available.

It seems as though General will be cutting a lot of stuff out of the Camaro for 2014, maybe even more so than they are putting-in. How successful do you feel that GM’s pony car family will be in 2014, given the long list of changes that lie ahead?!
