Corvette Z06 Carbon Tops Motor Trend List of Shortest Stopping Cars

[1]

Newton’s first law of motion states that an object will stay in motion until it is acted upon by an external force. Well, according to Motor Trend [2], the Corvette Z06’s brakes offer the best external force around, giving it the ability to stop quicker than any of the other high end sports cars they tested.

We were tipped off to Motor Trend’s 60-0 test thanks to a posting on Autoblog [3], where they report that the Z06 Carbon Edition took just 93 short feet to stop from 60 miles an hour. The next closest competition to the Z06 was the ultra-expensive Ferrari Scuderia, which also made the trip down from 60 in just 93 feet as well (Z06 must have won by a matter of inches). Honorable mention also goes out to the Porsche 911 GT3, which stopped in 94 feet.

Both the Z06 and the Ferrari are outfitted with big carbon ceramic brakes, while the Porsche apparently has common rotors with huge 6-piston calipers. Also of note here is that all three cars are equipped with super sticky, barely street legal tires which Motor Trend reports to give all three cars the traction (yet another external force) to stop this quickly. Both the top dog Z06 and the Porsche’s wheels are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cups, and the Ferrari wears Pirelli PZero Corsas. The Lexus LFA Prototype also made the list with a stopping distance of 94 feet, but it was cheating just a bit by using non-DOT rubber.
