It is without question that Corvette Racing is one of America’s premier racing teams, earning a seemingly endless list of accolades and championships. Run by the experienced hands of Pratt & Miller but working closely with GM, there’s also no arguing that the core team of four drivers has been one of the key factors of success for Corvette Racing.
So it comes as no surprise that Corvette Racing announced the re-signing of its four core drivers, Oliver Gavin, Jan Magnussen, Antonio Garcia, and Tommy Milner. They will be driving an evolution of the Corvette C7.R that includes several changes, including a switch to E20 racing fuel and some aerodynamic tweaks.
“We are pleased to have the Corvette Racing driver lineup set for 2016,” said Mark Kent, Director of Chevrolet Racing. “Antonio, Jan, Oliver, and Tommy have been behind the wheel of the familiar yellow Corvettes for several seasons now. Their ability to work cohesively has resulted in numerous key race wins and championships. We are proud of the accomplishments these drivers and Corvette Racing have delivered, and we look forward to more success.”
While the team occasionally brings on a couple of extra drivers for endurance events, this core group of four drivers have been racing together since 2012. All four drivers have earned ALMS GT class championships in recent years, and this year they took the GTE class victory at the annual running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. With the question of drivers for the 2016 season settled, Corvette Racing can focus on the last race of the 2015 season at Petit Le Mans, as well as getting ready for a run at the 2016 championship. How many victories can this quartet of skilled racers rack up next year?
