The 2015 C7 Corvette received a few upgrades from its original debut only one year prior. One of the added features was Chevy’s Performance Data Recorder (PDR), being the first production car to host a fully integrated system. The PDR allows drivers to analyze their track performance and pinpoint where mistakes were made and where there is room for improvement. With a high-definition camera facing towards the front of the car, the system records lap time on the track and can overlay this with telemetry data.
Recently, Chevrolet announced that they will be improving the quality of the video to improve on the “grainy and overexposed” appearance of the in-car footage. Corvette’s Chief Engineer, Tadge Juechter spoke about the upcoming change, “This is a perfect example of continuous improvement and backwards compatibility that I was asked about a couple weeks ago. GM engineering and our partner Cosworth have been working hard to improve the PDR and the user experience.”
“One area of investigation has been the image quality. Coincidentally, a software change was just released for Bowling Green production at the end of March and we will be making it available to customers who already have their cars in the next few weeks. The software includes several changes including improvements in color balance and sharpness of the image on the video.”
Needless to say, we are looking forward to see what the new imagery will look like firsthand and are excited to have a more colorful, sharp video from our next track experience with Chevy (cough). In the event you have already received your 2015 Stingray or Z06 equipped with the PDR, make sure you visit your local dealer for the software upgrade.
