It’s hard to believe, but the current 5^th Gen Camaro is in the twilight of its current model run. Chevy has done fantastic job staggering model changes and updates to keep interest in the car over its five year lifecycle. We’ve had supercharged ZL1’s, 7.0 liter Z/28s, appearance packages and special edition models ranging from Hot Wheels to Anniversary models. On top of that, the mid-cycle styling refresh was just right and didn’t hurt the original car’s killer styling.

Whew. With all that it’s easy to forget that the base model with the 323 horsepower, 3.6 liter V6 is a star in its own right. Apparently the public agrees, and Kelly Blue Book has bestowed the title of “best resale value” for the sports car category on the the secretary-special Camaro for 2014.

Funny, this mild mannered 2015 base Camaro with its V6 turns out 53 more horsepower than a 1979 Z/28, runs zero to 60 miles an hour in less than six seconds, and the MSRP starts at under $25K.

We also like that a base RS can be optioned to look just like an SS with 20 factory inch wheels and trim. In fact, such a car makes a great daily driver with 30 miles per gallon on the highway. You can get a base RS convertible too.

The new Mustang has taken some wind out of the Camaro’s sails as of late, but with a new 6th-gen on the way, that’ll be rectified soon enough. Until then, when you go to trade up to the aforementioned new bow-tie pony, you know you’ll get top dollar for your old 5th Gen model.
