Yesterday was officially the first day of fall, and many racing series are getting ready to wrap things up for the winter, even if there’s still a race or two left on the schedule. For Callaway Competition, not only does the 2016 racing season mean a fresh schedule, but also a brand new car to break in and drive to victory as the seasoned Z06.R GT3 prepares to retire.
On October 3rd, Callaway Competition will unveil its all new Corvette C7 GT3.R in Hockenheim, Germany for the 2016 ADAC GT Masters.
Many of you probably haven’t heard of the ADAC GT Masters series, and there’s a reason for that as almost all of the races are run in Germany itself. Launched in 2007, the series tackles tracks like the Nürburgring and Hockenheimring, though it also runs an event at Assen in the Netherlands. Callaway Competition took the championship in 2013 with the Z06.R GT3, but it’s ready to move onto the C7 generation of Corvettes in a bid to stay competitive.
Not that the Z06.R is doing terrible, having snagged four podium finishes despite being in its tenth year of service. But Callaway has actually been developing the C7 GT3.R since 2013, pausing the project during GT Convergence talks. With those complete, work can finish up, and the new C7 competitor will break cover early next month. The C7 GT3.R will incorporate lessons learned from its predecessor, and with two years to finely tune its work, we have high expectations for Callaway Competition in 2016.
