Word on the street for some time has been that General Motors is working on a “baby CTS” for the Cadillac lineup that will be smaller and cheaper than the current flagship sedan. What this Caddy will look like is anybody’s guess, though a short wheelbase CTS has been caught on the track in previous months, lending some legitimacy to these rumors. And now we have more than rumors to go on.
Two eagle-eyed members of the GM Inside News forums caught a brief glimpse of this mystery car under construction in the opening video of the General Motors website. The offending intro video appears to have been removed from the site already.
Now we’ve got to tread this ground carefully, because we like what we see, but we don’t want to get our hopes up either. This car appears to be a body-in-white with a rear-wheel drive configuration. The initial post was started by a user who goes by “Elvissuperman,” and he also posted two other shots that stuck out to him, which both appeared to show the Cadillac Converj concept. But the third picture looks nothing like the Converj, or anything else in GM’s lineup. The coupe-ish rear window, square gas filler area, and even a spoiler and some fancy rims for a body-in-white. Perfect for a car rumored to be getting a twin-turbo V6.
But is it really the ATS? User “Envoy4Life” posted up a recent spy picture from GM’s test track compared with the mystery model. While the booty looks a lot bigger, look specifically at the lines of the doors. It isn’t dead on, but it is awful close, and we’re starting to think that we got a sneak peak at Cadillac’s small car. And it looks good for a shell of a car, despite reports that the baby ATS was suffering from some growing pains. Hopefully the final product will be worth the trouble.
