Billet Specialties’ New Lightweight Concave Pro Touring Wheels

RazorCentersReadyforFinishTaking its 30-year track record from manufacturing, and what has been learned from its B-Forged modular wheel line, Billet Specialties is introducing a lighter, two-piece wheel aimed specifically for the Pro-Touring market.

TheWheelBeginsToTakeShapeStarting with a6061-T6 rotary forged aluminum center, these proprietary concave designs are made for strength and weight savings. Available in six styles in concave deep and concave shallow depths, the wheels are finished off with a lightweight 6061-T6 barrel with a double rolled edge.

Since these wheels are designed for the Pro-Touring market, you can imagine that big brakes come into play, and that aspect has been addressed by Billet Specialties with a recessed bolt pad and enough clearance for most aftermarket brake calipers, providing up to 1-3/4 inches of caliper clearance.

Another aspect that separates the Concave Pro Touring wheel from many three piece wheels is the lack of hardware to attache the components together. Its two-piece design eliminates the extra weight attributed to additional unsprung weight and increased inertia.

TheWheelIsCheckedBillet Specialties states that with the additional weight of hardware located towards the outer edge of the wheel, the moment of inertia is increased. However, the Concave Pro Touring wheel has no hardware, thus reducing the moment of inertia. Additionally, while unsprung weight doesn’t affect acceleration or top speed, the reduction of unsprung weight on a Pro-Touring car can reduce lap times due to better control and suspension performance.

So what does this all add up to? An 18×8-inch wheel can weigh in as little as 18.5 pounds, giving this wheel a great advantage for a Pro-Touring vehicle. There are several widths available in 18-, 19-, and 20-inch diameters, and multiple bolt patterns available.

Billet Specialties’ goal was to create an affordable two-piece wheel that reduces unsprung weight and improves cornering dynamics. They reached that goal with the Concave Pro Touring wheel, and you can see it at SEMA this year (Booth 21359), as well as the Billet Specialties website.
