Autoblog Drives the Zenvo ST1: Is it Really Powered by an LS7?

Autoblog recently posted their full review of the 1,000 plus horsepower, “twin-charged” 7.0L Zenvo ST1 Supercar. Autoblog got the chance to drive the ST1 for themselves, as well as talk with the owners of the company; Troels Vollertsen and Jesper Jensen.

Rather than starting with a rendering of what they wanted the car to look like, the Danes began instead with the basics of what makes a super car “super.” They designed the suspension, chassis, and how the supercharged and turboed 7.0L would sit in the frame first. Then around 6 months later when all of those details were ironed out, only then did they start designing what the outside of the car would look like. Their design philosophy seems kind of like the human skull, (which ironically enough the Zenvo resembles): the outer looks are actually determined by the underlying structure.

Autoblog reports that Vollersten and Jensen actually claim that the 7.0L powerplant under the rear hatch is their own design. But based on the quoted specs and dimensions, as well as the rumors we have heard to the effect that this is in fact a disguised LS7, lead us to lead us to believe the Zenvo is LSX powered. Small supercar companies “borrow” engines from major manufacturers all the time (the Mosler Raptor GTR is just one example that comes to mind), but we can understand why they might not want it to be common knowledge that the car is powered by a GM engine – it might make it lose some of the mystique if the buyers realized that their 1.25 million dollar supercar is powered by basically the same engine that comes in a $75,000 Z06 Corvette.

Check out Autoblog’s full report for more details on this awesome new supercar.
