Last month Cadillac finally gave us a glimpse at the upcoming full size, rear wheel drive CT6 sedan. When it lands in showrooms later this year, the CT6 will sit at the top of the totem pole of Cadillac offerings, and will boast performance-minded engineering focused around lightweight construction techniques, as well as a host of engine offerings ranging from a 2.0-liter turbocharged four cylinder mill all the way to a new twin-turbocharged V8.

Offered in between those two mills will be an all-new, 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 making 400 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. GM says the new motor will be one of the most power-dense DOHC V6 engines in the world when it goes into production in a few months.

To further illustrate that claim, Automotive News points out that the new direct injected mill trumps the 3.0-liter straight six currently offered in the BMW 7-Series by 85 horsepower and 70 lb-ft. The Caddy’s V6 will be paired with General Motors’ new HydraMatic eight-speed automatic transmission – the same gearbox found in the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette – along with cylinder deactivation and start/stop functionality, so impressive fuel economy numbers are widely expected as well.

The new V6 will be the top offering when the CT6 goes on sale, with the twin-turbocharged V8 most likely reserved for the inevitable V-Series offering that’s probably already in the pipeline. Set to start production in the fourth quarter of 2015 at GM’s Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant, the CT6 will make its official debut at the New York Auto Show on March 31st.
