Usually you see the Irmscher touch applied to Opel products, but they also work on other General Motors vehicles, namely the new Camaro. Starting with an SS model, the Irmscher Camaro i42 receives a supercharged version of the 6.2 liter V8 engine that delivers over 500 horsepower.
With that, the Remshalden, Germany-based company – near Stuttgart – says this Bowtie is good to hit 0-to-100 km/h (62 mph) in 4-seconds and has a top speed of 275 km/h (172 mph). Talk about a Porsche hunter! To cope with the extra power, the Camaro is also fitted with uprated brakes – 6-piston calipers and 380mm discs in front and 4-piston calipers out back working on 355mm discs. An adjustable suspension is in place to accommodate the increased power.
The Irmscher name in performance and motorsport goes back to 1965, when Günther Irmscher, Sr. won the German Touring Car Championship. Two years after, Irmscher won the “Tour d’Europe” rally, driving the very same vehicle – an NSU Prinz TT. (I can just hear Princess Leia in the background saying “You came here in that? You’re braver than I thought.”) The company went on to build a great reputation in both rally and road race car preparation.
For their i42 Camaro, which was revealed at the Essen Motor Show, they chose to maintain a monochromatic, black on white, presentation. The custom, glossy black 22-inch wheels and lowered suspension give the Camaro a street fighter’s stance, while the stripes and race numbers lend attitude to back up the looks and power.
The Irmscher i42 Camaro is reported to be available in Germany, starting from €49,000 (US$64,900).
