2017 Camaro ZL-1 Spotted Testing...Or Is It A New Z28?

Earlier this summer GM revealed to the world the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro, a car that doesn’t look too different from the car it replaces, even though it is different in almost every way. Don’t get us wrong, the 5th-generation Camaro is going to be hard to follow up, giving us a legitimate 400 horsepower SS model, a 505 horsepower Z28, and the the 580 horsepower supercharged Camaro ZL1.

We already know the Camaro SS will live on, but what of the Z28 and ZL1? Both have been sales successes, and Ford has already let it be known that it’s only investing more money and effort into its performance car programs, but so far GM has been mum on the subject. Just because they’re not talking doesn’t mean they’re not cooking up something special though, and MindOverMotor contributor Albert S. Davis posted the above picture of a camouflaged, sixth-generation Camaro in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Given that the 2016 Camaro has already been revealed, and camouflaged test mules have been spotted out and about, there’s a good chance this is a high-end performance model, possibly either the ZL1 or Z28.

Which would you rather have,a new Z28 or ZL1?

It’s not just the camouflage that makes us say that either. Those big tires look like something you wouldn’t find on a stock Camaro SS, and the exhaust cutouts look a lot more exaggerated as well. That certainly doesn’t prove anything one way or another, but one really has to wonder what GM is up to here. Is it a supercharged 2017 Camaro ZL1? Is it an even more track-ready Z28? Or is this something fresh, new, and powered not by a V8, but the new 2.0 liter turbo?
