Believe it or not, we are fast approaching the fourth anniversary of the 5th-generation Camaro, which came out during that wild year known as 2009 as a 2010 model year design. A lone bright spot in a dismal GM portfolio, the Camaro quickly became the best selling American muscle car in the land, beating out the Ford Mustang and Dodge Challenger in overall sales. Yet in that time both the Challenger and the Mustang have gotten significant refreshes, while the Camaro has stayed basically the same.

But that is all about to change, as later this month GM will debut a refreshed Camaro at the New York International Auto Show. There were few details in the Camaro5 post, but we’re looking forward to a new face on the 2014 Camaro.

While an all-new Camaro, reportedly riding on the Alpha platform, is set to come out for the 2017 model year, the current Camaro is looking a wee bit dated. It’s true, sales are staying ahead of the Mustang, but with 2015 bringing an all-new Mustang as well, you can expect the Ford muscle car to get a nice bump in sales.

GM obviously wants to give the Camaro some solid ground to battle the Mustang on, so the 2014 refresh could be quite significant. What’s on tap? There have been rumors that the Camaro could get the outgoing Corvette’s 7.0 liter LS7 V8 engine. Maybe GM will just boost the output of the 6.2 liter LS3 engine. As far as looks go, GM could go mild or full Monty and give the Camaro a full makeover. The above images are early concept sketches for what would become the 2010 Camaro, so maybe GM will look forward by looking back.
