You have to be careful when it comes to rumors. There’s always a 50/50 chance that they can be true, and if you ever spread one that can be false, you end up looking like a fool. As a result, you have to be careful what you say in this business, because your reputation is always on the line and you don’t want to be the one looking foolish.

So when we heard from the Camaro5 forums [2] that the LS7 will be on the option sheet for the 2014 Camaro, we were a little skeptical. We all know that the 2015 Camaro will be the first model year for the 6th-generation Camaro, so if GM is planning on sending the current version out with a bang, that’s one way to do it.
But is it for certain? We don’t know. We heard about it again on the GM Authority website [3] as well, with both sites sharing an uploaded screenshot of the 2014 Camaro engine list – with the 505hp 7.0L mill being on it.
If this is legit, what’s Chevrolet up to? Are they planning a return of another special model? The current LFX, L99, LS3, and LSA remain on the list as well – so the SS and ZL1 will return. Some time ago, GM re-trademarked the Z28 nomenclature, so could it be a replacement for the 1LE?
It would make sense – the current 1LE is essentially a combination of Super Sport and ZL1 bits combined together to make a factory-prepped road race machine. But many enthusiasts, including your author, felt that to build a proper road racer that GM should have adopted the LS7 from the get-go.
Only time will tell if this is for real, or some internet geek having a field day with Photoshop. What we can tell you is that we will keep our eyes and ears open if anything develops from this, and you can be sure that we’ll bring you up to date news right here!
