What would motivate children to get better grades and not ditch class? According to Jalopnik, a school district in Texas has found the ultimate motivator for school kids, a 2011 Camaro. Students in the Fort Worth Texas area school district receive raffle tickets for having good grades and keeping an excellent attendance record.
The North Texas ISD drew the names of 25 students from Byron Nelson High School, Northwest High School and Steele Accelerated High School to be entered into the car contest. These 25 students wrote their names on to the tickets they received for attendance and academic excellence, and the winner was drawn from the remaining tickets.
This program was created in response to the general apathy toward grades and attendance that most secondary school students face; with the proper incentive school officials thought it would motivate students to become more conscious of their attendance and studies. Kenzie Deaton, 14-year-old freshman, will have to wait to get behind the wheel of the donated Camaro.
Deaton plans to let her parents drive the Camaro until she gets her driver’s license. The remaining 24 students were not left empty handed; each of them received a Dell Streak 7 Touch Screen Tablet.
