“Battlestar Galactica” Corvette Deserves Extinction

Cars are great conveyors of the tenants of science fiction, and many of the most memorable concept cars had more than a dash of sci-fi in them. The recent Battlestar Galactica series, itself a remake of a classic 70’s Sci-fi show, was the story about human beings on the verge of extinction after an attack by the Cylons, super-advanced robots created by the same humans. Basically, the Cylons want to kill all humans, and chase the few survivors across the universe in an attempt to do so. The show features epic space battles and deep messages on everything from suicide bombings to politics to what it is to be human.

So how do you translate that on to a car? How about with an awful, awful “Battlestar Galactica” Corvette found on the streets of Istanbul, Turkey, brought to you by Autogespot.

Above: A Cylon Raider

We’ve seen cars based on spaceships before, and while more often-than-not the UFO looks just silly, we’ve seen some spaceship cars we wouldn’t mind piloting. This is not one of those cars. Besides bastardizing this poor Corvette convertible, there isn’t anything all that coherent about this car. The two main fighter ships in the Battlestar series are the human Vipers and the Cylon Raiders. While the Viper looks like your standard X-wing ripoff, the Cylon Raider looks like the letter C. It’d be awfully difficult to make a drivable car in the shape of a C, so instead the owner opted for an awful paint job and a ton of tacky accessories.

Above: Not a Cylon Raider

A custom bodykit with raised fender flares raised V sort of, kind of make it look like a Cylon raider, but not really. The gigantic rear spoiler and huge tin can center quad-exhaust really just scream ricer. And what is up with the rear gold emblem with Italian flags and “Battlestar Galactica BSG” emblazoned on it? None of this translates over to Battlestar Galactica’s epic space battles or deep storylines. Is this guy a Battlestar superfan with too much money, or are cool car standards just different in Turkey?
