The 24 Hours of LeMans is the premiere endurance race for the world. It involves the best drivers, the best cars, and some of the best racing ever seen. Names have been made and records broken at LeMans, and just a chance to participate in the storied race is considered an honor.
According to
CorvetteBlogger, the two factory-sponsored Corvette C6.R’s of Corvette Racing have been invited to participate in the extremely competitive GT2 at this years
24 Hours of LeMans.

Corvette Racing had a great season last year, winning the 12 Hours of Sebring for the GT1 class, but that does not equal an automatic invite. Rather, the team had to rack up the most points in the last five races, as well as winning the GT2 class at Mosport. This was enough to persuade the ACO to invite Corvette Racing to take the field with some very elite drivers and cars.
The C6.R’s will be sharing the track with some of the most expensive race cars on the planet. Among the competition will be five Porsche 911 GT3s, four Ferrari F 430 GTs, two BMW E92 M3s, as well as offerings from Aston Martin, Jaguar, and Spyker (Saab’s new overlord). The Corvette will be running with a new 5.5 liter engine for the race too, which should prove plenty potent. This is no doubt going to be a tight race, one we are sure the Corvette will come out on top of.
