Ask an F-body aficionado about the limited edition Firehawk model, and many of them will salivate at the mouth like Pavel's dog upon hearing a dinner bell. Produced by Street Legal Performance, a New Jersey based performance shop, the Firehawk was the baddest bird on the street and easily distinguished from its slower showroom cousins. The nameplate went extinct along with the Trans Am and Camaro in 2002, but now SLP hopes to bring the name back on Pontiacs newest rear wheel drive platform, the G8.
For die hard fans, the transition from legendary muscle car to sporty sedan might be a hard pill to swallow, but if anyone can do the G8 justice, its SLP. While no specific details have been released, we do know that they will be offering three different Firehawk models with both V6 and V8 variants. Originally SLP had planned to unveil the car at SEMA this year, but GM instead asked to release the information at their annual Indy Bash alongside the official unveiling of the Camaro SS.
Despite some criticism from die hard fans,
Motor Trend reports that SLP has apparently finalized plans to bring back the Firehawk and they obviously feel it will be a success despite the G8's sluggish sales.
