Everyone knows gas costs an arm and a leg. Personally, I spend $20 a day getting to and from work. The reality is that car guys still want horsepower. People that want to make big horsepower on a street car need to look more towards forced induction. The problem with nitrous or naturally aspirated motors is that the high compression isn't very fuel efficient. Running a lower compression motor with forced induction has proven to be much more fuel efficient at cruising speeds. The main key with forced induction fuel economy is keeping the motor in vacuum as much as possible.
ProCharger has been monitoring the fuel economy obtained through their supercharger kits. Here is what they reported:
• 2007 Z06 Corvette - 656 RWHP - 32.5 highway MPG
• 2006 Corvette built LS2 - 578 RWHP - 32.8 highway MPG
• Harley Davidson Street Glide - 119 RWHP - 40.2 highway MPG
• 2006 Dodge Charger - 21.4 MPG Average on Power Tour
• 2008 Ford Mustang GT - 21.1 MPG Average
The Z06 is stunning.. hard to believe you can make 656 rwhp and get 32.5 mpg on the highway, but that's 2008 technology for you!
