Our Nova Gets Some Roids
The media is only now starting to forget about performance enhancing products being used in mainstream sports such as baseball. The difference between stick and ball sports and the automotive sports is that we here in the car world love performance enhancing products. Oh yeah baby I’m talking about Steeroids, and we decided to jack our Nova up with a new rack and pinion steering conversion kit from Steeroids.

Believe it or not, this simple looking part is the piece that makes this install so easy. There is no cutting or fabrication to make this fit, it just bolts right in.

Now most of the time when you hear about a new part and it has the word conversion in it’s name that can mean trouble. Double trouble if you are dealing with steering. This is not the case with Steeroids. This was a true bolt in, which was a surprise to me. When I first found out that we would be converting the steering system to a rack and pinion I had even set the whole day aside to work on it. Then after blazing through the step-by-step instructions provided by Steeroids we were done before noon making it an easy day in the shop.

Next Step for Project Swinger is going to be dry fitting everything in the car including the brand new LS3 Crate Engine from GM Performance Parts. Then she will be off to the body shop for the winter. There our Nova will get all patched up and maybe a mini-tub. It just all depends on how everything ends up going on the car.

Yeah. I agree with Tom. Easy bolt in. Y'know how every product says "bolt in" on the instructions but you still end up modifying it? Not true here. It was in fact a direct bolt in. Easy enough that it took longer to shoot pictures than to do the maintenance.

What's really cool about the Steeroids Steering rack for this car is that it is unique. You don't find many replacements for rear steer cars. That is, with the steering rack behind the cross member instead of in front of it like most GM cars.

I guess that you could say that Steeroids gets two thumbs up from the shop dawgs!

i have to say, the stock steering system that GM installed in the 70s is terrible. Good job putting in a rack, cant wait to see how the project turns out

Its not that it is terrible, its just that it is outdated now. Remember when GM was building these cars in the 70s they were only thinking that they would be one the road for 7 years tops.
