Nurburgring a good fit for Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 as it Smashes the GT-R time
Nissan and Chevrolet are engaging in a tit-for-tat battle royale over the Nurburgring Ring record for a production-spec vehicle. That shows you just how good the Corvette ZR1 and GT-R Spec Skyline really are.
The ZR1, rumored to be selling for over $300,000 in real world dollars, has been lapping the Ring with GM Engineers and race drivers in tow looking to drop the hammer on the GT-R. They achieved victory with a time of 07:26.4 seconds which eclipsed the GT-R's time of 7:28:03. Both are supposedly production vehicles.
Tadge J. Juechter is the lead engineer on the Corvette, and he is on record stating that tires are production tires which will be featured on the ZR1, sticky Michelin's which were custom designed and produced for the top of the line Corvette. Like we stated, Juechter claims this ZR1 is the same one you can jingle the keys to from the factory in Bowling Green.
With 638 hp coming from it's supercharged LS9 powerplant, the Ring is a perfect test for the ZR1 since it is well over 17 miles. Now, that being said, the ZR1 is being tested against the GT-R and not the V-Spec. Don't think for a second that the Nissan engineers aren't busting the midnight oil on the "V".
Located in Germany, Nurburgring has been around since the 1920's, and is one of the most treacherous race courses in the world. It requires an equal mix of vehicle, engineering talent, and driving to make it around the track. It's such a difficult track to navigate that deaths on the track can't be called uncommon.
All being said, it's a real statement by the ZR1 team, but likely one that won't stand the long test of time.
