There are two Drag Strips, Firebird & Speedworld in Phoenix, although I'm not into drag-racing anymore.
We have three Roadracing courses located at Firebird International Raceway in Phoenix, with a 4th small one at Bob Bondurant and a great one (hairy) at PIR (Phoenix International Raceway) 5 total.
I've done Laguna seca and like Southern Cal, like Button Willow.
There two start-up companies just beginning to try to sell k-member and LSX conversion parts for LSX Miatas, I don't know how good they are yet, really.

LS V8 Miata sounds like you have a plan to stuff that bird with power. I know you know about the ford power plant been there and tested and there are probably enough parts for that conversion but I never heard somebody stuffing a V8 LS motor in one. I haven't read all the posts yet but if the parts are hard to find why don't you stick to stick what works.
I've said it before that I'm a Ford guy and I would try and stuff any car with a Ford power Plant just because of the facts but maybe just think if you could stuff a 2003 cobra motor in a Miata with a Whipple well......Jesus that would be 650 RWHP @ 675RWTQ in a car as light as yours. If you could make it stick down to the ground you miata would go into the 9's in not 8's in the quarter.
I knwo I'm on a GM site but I thought maybe I would throw you a different idea.
Good luck on your project and welcome to the site.
I'll try to address your points, I've had Ford V8s in other conversions I've done 1972 240Z and Mustangs. It's too much work and cost trying to find and try Ford components that make as much power as Chevys do. Not so much today with all the 5.0 based after-market.
The fastest 5.0 V8 Miatas I've seen are 377 strokers, with ridiculous builds, to normally aspirated make about 415 RWHP. My friend's Ford 5.0s modded to that kind of ragged edge performance on Sunoco or VP, cost more than my new crate LS2 making 400 HP & 400 Ft/ Lb torque STOCK on unleaded pump gas!!
That's just a starting point, you mentioned 650 HP with a Whipple Blower, how about 700 HP normally aspirated (No blower or turbo)? We've got GTOs and Cadillac CTS-Vs all over Phoenix posting those kinda numbers.
Normally aspirated GM, versus ragged edge, race built Ford with blower for same power?
Make mine GM, Thank You

Cool video and cool idea and real clean looking...congrats on that!
I know all about the GTO's and I'm not any bit impressed with them. I've raced many of them and naturally aspired and I think a turbo version and never once did they EVER get in front of my snake.
I'll never forget the time I got my Cobra for the first time and I went to San Diego for a concert with my friend Mike and on the way back form SD I ran into a lowered GTO with all sorts of stickers of what he put into it. Now all my car had at the time was a Ported stock blower with a few mild bolt ons not serious. The Snake made 498 to the tire. Now at a rolling start at 6o MPH we raced like 4 times and every time it was a complete JOKE!! I burned the paint off this guy by at least 15 car lengths and going when I hit 150 plus MPH. So we slowed down like doing 55 MPH and my buddy screamed over to him what do you have in your GTO and he screamed back to many parts to scream over to you. So he asked us the same what we had in our car and said Just a ported Blower and a Throttle body which was the truth. He couldn't believe that he got wasted that bad and we both complemented eachother s car and went on our way.
Now in case you didn't know the 2003 cobra came with a blower from the factory with an Eaton roots style blower so replacing a blower tune throttle body & some injectors doesn't cost more than $5K but I can almost promise you that a GTO that is going to make 700 hp is going to need many thousands if not 10 of thousands of dollars more to make that HP. I have respect for Chevy's but when it comes down to it your not pushing the same HP for the same low dollars than it would take to make a ford go fast. Its always been that way and it will never change, Just look at any Summit or Jegs mag to do the comparison, Chevy's are more expensive to go fast!
So sorry to burst your bubble on the GTO and stuff but after your done spending all that extra dough on your GM fast my ford will be as quick but with a trip to Cancun with my savings.
No bubble burst Vader, I clearly understand why Fords HAVE to use Blowers, Turbos and Nitrous to achieve comparable performance, it's Chevy Envy.
Most Ford driver's with such issues usually order the same "enlargement" pills advertised online while they're searching Jegs and Summit to go faster, longer, harder, eh?
No, I'm refering to actually "Building" engines ourselves, hands on like Katech and Rousch with our designs, building, tuning and racing experiences determining the actual end results, not dialing 1-800-Cheap parts.
I'm also talking about real racing, sanctioned, legal on track experiences, not ill conceived ego contests, spontaneously endangering innocent people on the streets. All those stickers on the GTO are for scare factor (they come from Jegs & Summit too) probably bone stock.
I've done Fords (see picture attached), we just have drastically diffrerent opinions obviously.

My Bubble never burst at all.
I can tell we have a difference in opinion and thats all good.
Fords Don't necessarily need a blower & nitrous & it was never implied but it's not as much as Chevy's that squeeze all the time as well as putting blowers and turbo's to go fast as well so I don't get your point.
Obviously your little feeling are hurt because you know what I'm saying is true but hey its cool to get a bit hostel to wards me, I'm used to it when you guys are used to seeing the back of my tail lights....I would be hurting too and crying that we need WHATEVER it took to go around you.
Adding a after market blower by Whipple is a blower perfected on BBC's so I don't know why YOU would use the same cheap parts as I, as you indicated.
So please don't say my bubble has burst when it sounds like yours has and maybe you have allot of remorse going to a Chevy power plant opposed using a Superior Ford Blown power Plant that is stock provided by FORD.
Wait a minute doesn't the new ZR1 have the same blower on it as well as our Fords to go fast to be considered a SUPER CAR Your starting to sound like a hypocrite.
Maybe a Miata is all you can handle and you are scared of the blown application or maybe time has passed you by.
I'm a member of ProAutosports, NASA and SCCA and I'd be glad to have you come over to one of our track days, when my Miata is finished and we'll see just what a Cobra in your hands, on a world class roadracing course is capable of.
Since none of the Viper GTS-Rs and many race prepped cars can handle the Ford 5.0 Miatas we've frequently seen on tracks over here, I suspect an ex-driving instructor like myself might show you a thing or two with an LSX Miata.
When my car's finished it's an open invite to you, ANYTIME.
Also, you know what they say about people that refer to themselves in the third person.
Thanks for your comments Melissa ( I had a C.O.P.O. 1972 Nova SS, loved it)
