Paul Major on Fire!

One could argue this either way. Paul Major was racing Steve Turley. Steve was not even in the first beam yet when Paul had the first beam tripped and was on the brake. Steve did take a long time to stage after Paul got on the brake. Paul then double bulbed and Steve followed shortly after. By 1/8th mile Paul's car was smoking badly. By the time he got to the stripe the car was on fire. Probably from being on the brake for so long, made for a spew-age of transmission fluid which caught on fire. The track crew did manage to get it out quick. Paul says he will be in Orlando.

Video will follow in Sunday's Highlights.

More Elimination Results

Steve Fereday on a single ran a 7.686 @ 188.54. The Camaro is like a bracket car. Consistency may play into his hands. We will face Turley in the finals

Steve Turley's Camaro somehow got on the two step through the beams which caused the car to backfire and destroyed the downpipe. A true show of sportsmanship when Tom Kempf donated a replacement that required some fabrication to work.

Tom Kempf goes on a bye to the semis with a 7.709 @ 190.35 MPH to Filipowski's 7.918 @ 187.16

Jud Massingill had fuel leakage problems and was DQed. Chris Fowler goes onto the finals on a lifting run.

Joe Hunneycutt runs off from his previous runs with a 9.209 @ 148.69 MPH. Joe only won by .14 over Kevin Patterson's 9.348 @ 144.15

Remaining Heads Up Runs

The semi finals in Drag Radial would come down to Steve Fereday against Steve Turley. Fereday had been averaging over a half second faster run then Turley all weekend. The result was much of the same. Fereday won against Turley with a 7.600 @ 188.15 to loosing 8.369 @ 140.50. This was Fereday's best pass.

What happened in the end was a blown head gasket. I have rarely seen a team thrash so hard to get to the finals. A crew of about 6 people were running around, trying to get ready to face defending champion Tom Kempf (who had a bye) in the finals.

Heads Up Final Round

Joe Huneycutt was the man to beat in All Motor all weekend. There was no doubt that we expected him in the finals, unless there was a massive failure. The finals came down to Huneycutt and Chris Fowler for the finals. Fowler ended up making it to the finals due to competition singles through broke competitors. Huneycutt ended up taking the win with a 9.203 @ 145.41 to Fowler's 9.719 @ 138.53.

The finals would come at an interesting twist. In one lane is the defending Drag Radial Champion, Tom Kempf. In the other lane is Steve Fereday with no water in the engine due to a blown head gasket. Amazingly, Steve would turn it up and run the best pass of a 7.586 @ 188.52 MPH to a very close Tom Kempf's 7.601 @ 191.10 MPH.
