Qualifying Round 1 Notes
This evening was the first round of qualifying for heads up classes. Index classes all had a test and tune session and will start their first round of qualifying tomorrow.

Martin Cox had issues last night getting his Trailblazer SS down the track. Yesterday they broke the locker and welded it up. Today Martin went to hit the nitrous off the line and the SS stumbled and died. Later to find out that there was no nitrous coming on with the fuel. Some tracing of wires will be in order.

Joe Huneycutt managed to be the first LSX All Motor class car to break into the 8s with a 8.961 @ 154.58. Joe is currently sitting at the number one qualifying position after the first round.

Number two All Motor qualifier goes to Jud Massingill, last year's number one qualifier. Jud has had a tough time with his car. It first started back with a transmission that was deemed illegal. It was hours before being shipped when Jud had to cancel the order. Next, was mounting a new set of tires. The tire shop managed to bend the rear wheels when mounting the tires. Bogart had an extra set of rear wheels that were a different offset and would require the SAM crew to narrow the rear end to make the wheels fit. They shortened the rear end with the tires in the air. When the car came down, the rear tire rubbed the brake line.

Yesterday during a test hit, the tire wore through a rear brake line. Unknowing, Jud went to stop the car and there was nothing there. After mashing the brakes to get the car to stop, the front tires locked up and popped a tire. Jud had to pull the chute to get the car to straighten out. After returning to the pit, they swapped out the wheel and tire for a new one.

Jud says the Camaro is down on power, despite the 9.080 @ 152.50 number two qualifying position. He has looked through the entire motor and is stumped. Next is to dig into the wiring

Drag Radial Highlights

Steven Fereday came out and laid down a 7.771 @ 179.23 pass to earn the number one qualifying position. The turbo Camaro seemed to leave rather soft and also shut down at 1000 feet due to richening up on the top end. The crew plans to lean out the Camaro slightly and will be adding in a few pounds of boost. They are hoping for a 7.50.

Last year's Drag Radial winner, Tom Kempf sits in the second spot by a half of a tenth. Tom also left a little soft since the drag radial cars were having issues hooking up during the morning test and tune session. All of this added up to his 7.827 @ 186.27.

From what we thought was turbo issues earlier today ended up being transmission problems for Paul Major. The crew had to swap out out the transmission and put the Shakedown tune in it. The track wasn't able to hold the traction and Paul now sits in the last spot in the ten car field after round one.

The track has not been that bad. The left lane was somewhat soft, but the Pro Street guys had someone go 6.27.
