Japanese Soul With An American Heart: LSX Supra
Adam Gier's Toyota Supra with its factory Anthrocite paint scheme is rare in it's own right but the heart of this beast makes it truly unique. Gier had a notion to build something totally off the wall with insane power to boot. First call was to find the proper people to pull off the unthinkable and TYDO Race Cars of Springfield Missouri has done just that.

427 cubes of LSX power propelled by twin 88mm turbos under the hood.

The heart of the Supra is a 427 cubic inch LSX assembled by Nelson Racing Engines of California. Being built with only the best pieces the industry has to offer the engine is topped with All Pro Heads and a Hogan intake. The custom twin turbo kit utilizes twin GT47-88 turbos and a front mounted 3000hp water to air intercoller was all designed and built by TYDO. In order to handle the extreme horsepower of the LSX engine the suspension had to be completely worked over with Strange struts, spindle mount wheels and the rear was outfitted with a fabricated Ford 9 inch rear, ladder bars with coil over shocks.

When it comes time to go fast Adam relies on the 40 spline gun drilled axles in the rear to keep the car going straight along with Aerospace dual rear calipers to slow the car down safely. Ace Transmission built the powerglide with a Neal Chance converter to coincide with the Fast Engine Management System which is all run through the touch screen digital dash. Adam handles all the tuning duties himself. On the dyno at Nelson's facility the engine made a stout 2500 horsepower at 39 pounds of boost. Gier's ride is sure to be player no matter where he chooses to race. With its stock looks dont let it fool you!

Not sure if the Supra would have been my choice. Love the car, but man is it one heavy pig.

Unfortunately I ran out of time to get the car lined out before winter sat in, but it went a best of 5.73 @ 139 in the 1/8th with only a 1.63 60' and that was on base boost. The wastegates were set at 10psi, and it boost creeped up to 17psi by the end of the run. Look for 4.90's at close to 160mph in the 1/8th at full power.

Wow sounds like a heck of a ride even if it is a heavy pig! How hard was it to mount that engine in? I haven't seen to many of these swaps so I'm guessing it was a bit of work.

3150 w/ driver is heavy? The swap wasn't bad at all, just custom motor plate and k-member. The reason you don't see this swap is because Supra's are expensive cars and LSX's are expensive engines, also the independent rear deter's most people, but with the right chassis guy, a 9" is also easily done!
