GM And Ford Coming Together

There is no typo in the title of this post. Ford and GM are engaging in talks about exploring joint engine and powertrain projects. The shocking news has come from sources from both companies. It was said that GM first approached Ford more than a month ago. GM told Ford that it was willing to discuss a wide range of possible collaborations.



You can read the full news article here, but rather than talk about which developer was spotted at the meetings like a bad celebrity gossip fen, I would rather think about the unspeakable. Like what would happen if this went through.

Just imagine for a moment the wonders this could bring to the American roads. How many of you would like a LS7 GT500, or the Ford GT drivetrain pinned under the Corvette. This list could go on and on. I for one would love to laugh as I went to my local Ford dealer and buy a GM Engine to put in a Mustang and have it all under warranty.

I think this is just speculation. I mean, every time there is a rumor about a shake up on the big 3 a rumor is floated about a merger.

My question is - how would a merger really help either of these companies?
