When GM set out to build the ZR-1, they did so knowing the inevitable would happen. You don’t sell a track-ready monster at a bargain price without knowing that someone, somewhere will crash it. If it had to happen though, it should have been at that track, where the car can truly push the limits legally.

The Corvette ZR-1 is heaping with power and suspension modifications, and it has proven its prowess on world-renowned tracks like the Nurburgring. This car was owned by a privateer racer by the name of Greg Soebelski, and this was apparently his first time out in a competitive race. Supported by Entropy Racing, this ZR-1 has been modded to mimic the C6R racing Corvettes, but with the benefits of the ZR-1’s intercooler, supercharger, and ceramic brakes. Greg lost it between turns eight and nine, called “The heel of the boot,” on the Watkins Glen long course.
Greg races with his “East Coast Racing Team” which consists of a BMW E92 M3, a widebody 350Z, and a CLK 63 Black series, so there is obviously a lot of money behind this venture. Greg is apparently already looking for a new ZR-1, and before this crash he practiced at PDA driving school. While the crash sucks, the ZR-1 is a lot of car, so for a first timer it is understandable. Hopefully it is also a learning experience. I hate to see such a rare, cool car get all beat-up like that. Make sure you check out the
video (can't embed it...) of the crash from the trailing car.
