Sometimes it is easy to forget that the only thing keeping our cars on the road is a thin layer of rubber and air called the tire. Often overlooked but incredibly important, tires can affect everything from fuel economy and safety to performance. This is doubly true on purpose-built sports cars like the Corvette.
Rick Conti’s Corvette blog has let it slip that the upcoming 2011 Corvette Z06, which we know little about thus far, will at the very least be getting some new
Goodyear tires.

Goodyear has a long-established relationship with Chevy and the Corvette, and for the past three decades their tires have graced some of the fastest Corvettes on the road. But tires evolve, and the latest iteration of the Goodyear F1 tire, called the F1 Super Car G:2, is defined as “street-capable, but track ready”. That should be good news for Corvette owners, many who enjoy both the track and daily driving their ‘Vettes.
Directional treads with large tread blocks help dry-cornering grip, according to Goodyear, while the large Aqua channels on the inside of the tire improve handling under slippery conditions. Like the current Goodyear F1 tire, these are also going to be the safe Run Flat series, which allows a punctured tire to stay afloat until the car gets home or to a shop. The new tire will be available in P275/ 35ZR18 and P325/30ZR19. Maybe this is a hint that the Z06 will be getting more horsepower and thus need a better tire?
