It’s not really that easy to fathom, why 585 very streetable horsepower is not enough and requires a complete do over. Well that is exactly what
Draco Performance Engineering’s customer is doing, to pick up an additional 300hp.
They are starting with familiar LS-2 core, of a forged 4” rotating assembly for 402 CID. Topping their short block, is a set of Trick Flow cylinder heads. Putting the power to the motor is a Procharger D1SC, featuring a newly designed bracket intended to reduce belt slip, despite the upgrade to an 8 rid belt.
Maximizing power output to the ground, is a new torque converter with a moderate stall speed to keep it streetable, but still getting the RPM in the power band quickly when it’s time for fun. They don’t ignore the chassis, by adding a set of PFADT adjustable coil over shocks, to replace the traverse mount leaf springs.
DPE also managed to make a few modifications on this Corvette, which are fairly unique. Instead of leaving the oil pressure sensor tucked neatly behind the intake manifold, they relocate it claiming it reduces temp and adds durability, and makes it much simpler to replace.
They also choose to lower just the radiator, instead of using the Procharger supplied parts, which lower the entire radiator cradle. It’s one of those special modifications that only a welder and fab time will buy.
