We always look forward to visiting with our friends at Mast Motorsports at the SEMA show; while their booth isn’t exactly what you would call spacious, it’s always filled with interesting things to look at. This year, their LS7 265-series CNC head caught our eye, mostly because it was very familiar to us from a test we did just a little while back.

Mast considers these heads as “medium bore,” intended for 4.000 and larger, but optimized to flow well in smaller-displacement applications. “These are for the guys who are class-limited in terms of engine size,” Horace Mast explained. “We are getting a lot of interest, because they work so well.”

The LS7 265 was just one of half a dozen heads the company had on display, and we’d guess that most enthusiasts know them best for their race-winning cylinder heads. But per Mast, a large and growing portion of their business is building complete engines. The Whipple-supercharged one shown here is just a sample – whether you want a 550-650 horse naturally aspirated engine for a “mild” street car, a Black Label crate engine that delivers from 650-750 “on the motor,” or a supercharged 750+ horsepower monster, Mast has a catalog full of choices.
