Extreme high horsepower racing engines demand a stout bottom end. We’re talking 2,000-plus horsepower extreme. A beefy crankshaft is truly a don’t-leave-home-without-it component. Racers out there running monster LSX powerplants demand such a crank to keep all of their parts in the proper places within the block, and Callies, among the industry leaders, heard that call.
Callies has developed their Ultra Billet crankshaft line for cutting edge applications with custom ordering and endless configurations to meet the specific needs of
racers. Among the lineup is the Ultra LSX crank made of strong EN30B steel to handle the harsh torment of more than 2,000 horsepower. Noted LSX Drag Radial racers Tom Kempf, Steven Fereday, and Mark Koehler use these cranks in their 7-second, 200+ MPH Firebirds.
These Ultra Billet cranks feature an Aeroshed finish that’s stress-riser free and incredibly aero efficient. As well, the uniquely designed directional Ultra-Shed trailing edges are rounded and contoured to direct any slip-stream oil coming off the counterweight away from the oncoming leading edge and minimizes oil splash and turbulence. This also reduces friction from lingering oil. The rod journal lightening holes and main bearing gun drill holes are also highly polished and radiused. According to guys at Callies, these can be custom-ordered with any stroke and pin.
In addition to the LSX crank, Callies has Ultra bullets available for the Big Block Chevy and Small Block Chevy, with Chrysler parts coming soon. As well, they’re developing a 5.000 big block piece intended for use by Pro Modified teams.
