Way back when the Z06 first made its debut, it was on the 1963 split-window coupes and offered sharp, deep-pocketed customers access to a race-ready Vette straight from the factory. Rare was the individual that needed a 36.5-gallon fuel tank, larger shocks and springs, or a brake system with dual master cylinders and a vacuum brake booster; as such, only 199 Z06s were ever made for the C2s.
Fast forward to today, and that high-performance lineage lives on in the latest generation of Corvettes. By now, GM has revealed a great deal about the 2015 Z06, informing us on everything from its output (which may be sandbagged) to its litany of gadgets that are sure to make it a trackside superstar in the coming months.
But let’s face it: when we hear of something so outrageously beautiful and utterly powerful, the inclination to burn rubber is just second nature at this point. Be it a Bentley Mulsanne or a Koenigsegg Agera R, it’ll get the respect it deserves in the proper place and time; cars are meant to be driven first and foremost, and that’s essentially what the above video boils down to.
The guys at High Tech Corvette were fortunate enough to get their hands on the coveted Corvette, supercharged to over 600 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque. Presumably, this video was shot before HTC’s full review was shot, as they imply in the description: “We had to break the Z06 in the right way! Now I gotta go clean the tire marks off the parking lot…”
Whatever the case is, we’re just glad to see the Z06 getting some action in before the holiday break. Follow up with more by visiting High Tech Corvette’s website, and check out their Facebook as well.
